John Brockmeier

Hello! My name is John.

I’m a Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. I live in Denver and often travel throughout Colorado for work (and play).I graduated from Yale, where I studied the history of the American West. I wrote a senior thesis about how the high-school-history-textbook version of Western History changed over the 20th century. That writing project helped me understand the stories, like Frederick Jackson Turner’s Frontier thesis, that shaped my home. Most importantly, I’m from Nebraska. I grew up in Kearney, right in the middle of the state. I’m proud that, for me, being a Nebraskan is something to be loud about, even while working in Colorado politics. I look forward to moving home someday.I like to whitewater kayak, ski, and read. Lately, I’ve remembered that I enjoy running. In no particular order, I often think about historiography, regionalism, jackalopes, Wallace Stegner, rural Democrats, federal funding, recreation economies, brain drain, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the future of rural America. Please feel free to reach out. Email or Signal works best.
